What a Beautiful Name – Hillsong: Song Story

4 days remaining! Today’s song is “What a Beautiful Name” from the Hillsong albums titled “Let There Be Light”. It’s an amazing song encompassing all that Colossians 1:15-20 sets out, that Jesus is God’s word brought to life, the visible image of an invisible God, supreme over all creation. He is the name above every other name, beautiful, wonderful, powerful. He has no rival, no equal and there is no end to his reign.

Jesus reveals to us more of who God is, unveiling some of the mysteries of our incredible creator and as he does so we come to know more of who God is. “The Son radiates God’s own glory and expresses the very character of God, and he sustains everything by the mighty power of his command.” (Hebrew 1:3)

Jesus is the name above all names and God elevated him to the place of highest honour (Phil 2:9). The name of Jesus represents so much of who God is and before Jesus was even born to earth, Isaiah 9:6 declares that his name shall be “Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”

What a beautiful name it is: Prince of Peace, how tender is our God, how beautiful the sweetness and softness of our saviour, the lamb.

What a wonderful name it is: Wonderful Counselour, how awesome is the gift of Jesus, how incredible the salvation, the restoration that the son of man brings to each of us, making us whole once more.

What a powerful name it is: Mighty God, how powerful is our redeemer, the king of kings, the mover of mountains, the calmer of storms, the lion of Judah!

Death could not hold You: Everlasting Father. When Jesus went willingly to the grave, he stepped down from heaven to earth to draw near to us, to draw us to him. He made a way where there was no way, giving us access to the father. No matter how big our sin, his love is greater, washing it away, and nothing can separate us from the love of God (Romans 8:38-39).

His is the Kingdom, the power and the glory forever. What an incredible name!

Colossians 1:15-20

“Christ is the visible image of the invisible God. He existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation, for through him God created everything in the heavenly realms and on earth. He made the things we can see and the things we can’t see— such as thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities in the unseen world. Everything was created through him and for him. He existed before anything else, and he holds all creation together. Christ is also the head of the church, which is his body. He is the beginning, supreme over all who rise from the dead. So he is first in everything. For God in all his fullness was pleased to live in Christ, and through him God reconciled everything to himself. He made peace with everything in heaven and on earth by means of Christ’s blood on the cross.”‭

Jesus. You are beautiful, wonderful, powerful and so worthy of all our praise.
You have no rival, no equal and your kingdom will never end.
Thank you that you came to earth so that I can know you better, so that your glory is revealed, and so that I can be yours forever.
