LIFE: Christianity – What is it all about?

What is the deal with Christianity? What is it all about? It’s simple really…When people become Christians, it means that they are responding to the gospel, that literally means good news, about Jesus. The gospel can essentially be explained in 4 parts.

Part 1: You are Loved by God

People matter to God. Like we really matter to him. In the beginning we were created by God in his own image, to be like him and to be in relationship with him. We are his family. He loves us perfectly because he is perfect – he is love.

“…Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.” — 1 John 4:7-8

Part 2: The Issue

We rebelled against God. Adam and Eve started it, but ever since then, people – us – have decided to do things our own way, without God. We’ve decided we don’t need him and we mess things up. All the time. We make mistakes. We say the wrong thing. We do things that hurt others. Not always. Not even on purpose most of the time. But we do. We aren’t perfect. We call this sin – this just means anything that separates us from God.

“But your iniquities have made a separation
    between you and your God,
and your sins have hidden his face from you
so that he does not hear”
— Isaiah 59:2

Some of us know that we are distant from God. We try and do all sorts of things to make us better people, to make up for what we have done wrong.

We give to charity · Go to church ·
Help the elderly · Pray for the sick

And all of these things are really great! But no matter how hard we try we can never be perfect. It’s only a matter of time before we make another mistake, say something unkind, get angry, lie, cheat…

Because God is perfect we can never reach his standards. Every time we miss the mark, it’s like we build an invisible wall between us and God.

“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” — Romans 3:23

This separation from God means that we cannot have life with God, in this life or for eternity. And this is what we call death – eternal separation from God, in the only place that God doesn’t inhabit – Hell.

“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” — Romans 6:23

Part 3: You have been set Free from the cost of sin

The good news is that we still matter to God. He knew that there was nothing that we could do to reach him. So he came to reach us. He sent Jesus, his son, God on earth, to bridge the gap for us. Jesus was perfect, is perfect, and he paid the price for sin – death – so that his perfect life can be exchanged for our sinful one.

“Christ suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the body but made alive in the Spirit.” — 1 Peter 3:18

And after 3 days, he rose so that we could have life through him. And the bible says life in abundance. God’s good and perfect will for us is more than we can ever dream or imagine. The Christian life is a journey of adventure, joy and strength!

“I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” — John 10:10

And this new life is given to us as a gift.

“Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift!” — 2 Corinthians 9:15

Part 4: Take action and Express this as truth

Part of receiving a gift is that you have to accept it. We do that by accepting that we’ve messed up and that Jesus died for our sins, asking God for forgiveness and giving God back the lead in our lives. We are immediately adopted into his family.

“Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.” — John 1:12

Jesus is L·I·F·E

Christianity is simple.

We are deeply Loved by God
The Issue is we all fall short
But Jesus blood set us Free
Now all we have to do is Express this truth

If you would like to make that decision today then simply ask God and the bible says you will receive. You can use your own words, or if you like you can pray the words below along with me, believe (even with faith as small as a mustard seed – Matthew 17:20) and from today you can declare that you are a child of God!

Dear Father God,
I want to thank you that you love me so much. I recognise that you are God and that you created the heavens and the earth. Thank you for creating me.
I am sorry for all the things that I have done wrong, the times I have tried to do things my way, the times that I have failed. Please forgive my sin.
Thank you that your son Jesus paid the price for my sin and that only through what he has done you see me as though sin-free!
Please adopt me into your family and take the lead in my life. Help me to live as Jesus lived and to love as you love.
In Jesus precious name, I pray.
