Only 1 day to go!!!! I have saved my favourite song of the conference until last. Today’s song is “Let There Be Light” by Bryan and Katie Torwalt. This song is all about the power of the Word of God and the ability it has to overcome darkness, confusion, obstacles, fear, anxiety. When God speaks, things change. Darkness bows. Confusion becomes clarity. Mountains move. Walls are torn down. There’s new life. Fear is silenced. The Spirit of God moves, bringing freedom. Wow!
Let there be light. God’s word is a lamp for my feet and a light for my path (Psalm 119: 105). Light extinguishes darkness. Light clarifies. Light drives away fear.
When God speaks, all powers of darkness have to bow and submit to his authority, as did demons when Jesus spoke, they fled in fear. No longer do the powers of darkness have any dominion over us because God’s word is light.
God is not the author of confusion. He is the giver of wisdom and understanding (Ecclesiastes 2:26), and “the unfolding of [his] words gives light; it gives understanding to the simple” (Psalm 119:130).
We have not been given a spirit of fear, but of power, love and self-discipline (2 Timothy 1:7). We received God’s spirit when he adopted us as his own children (Romans 8:15) and with the King of all creation as our dad we have nothing to fear! Our eternity is secure and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom (2 Corinthians 3:17)!
God’s word can move mountains, the obstacles in our way, the fears holding us back, the anxieties that grip us. At one word, walls are torn down, chains are broken. The Spirit of God breathes life into our very being and he continues to give us life (Job 33:4). What once was dead has new life. Those dreams from God that we thought were long gone are resurrected. That depression that once gripped us is forced out and we have new joy. That oppression, affliction, sickness, disease that once ensnared us is driven away. All darkness is overthrown by light!
“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it! John 1:5
Jesus is the word of God made flesh. He was with God from the very beginning, “all things were made through him and without him nothing was created. [He] gave life to everything that was created [including me and you] and his life brought light to everyone” (John 1:1-4). He is the light of the world (John 8:12) and it is because of him that all of this is available to us.
God knew that there was nothing that we could do to reach him so he came to reach us. He sent Jesus, his son, God on earth, to bridge the gap for us. Jesus was perfect, is perfect, and he paid the price for sin so that his perfect life can be exchanged for our sinful one (1 Peter 3:18). After 3 days, he rose so that we could have abundant, joyful, everlasting life through him. God’s plans for us are more than we can ever dream or imagine! The Christian life is a journey of adventure, joy and strength!
This new life is given to us as a gift (2 Corinthians 9:15) and so we have to accept it. (If you don’t yet call yourself a Christian but you would like to know more, take a look at my earlier post what is it all about?) We can come back every single day, because his mercies are new every morning and there is no end to the good gifts that he has for his children (Matthew 7:11). Grasping these truths is a journey, a process of becoming more of who we were created to be. Simply ask God and the bible says you will receive.
When we declare “Let There Be Light” we are welcoming in the presence of Jesus, welcoming in the light that extinguishes all darkness, and the Spirit of the Lord who brings freedom, joy and strength (Nehemiah 8:10).
Thank you, God, that when you speak darkness bows, confusion becomes clarity, fear is silenced.
Thank you for the fullness of life that we have because of what you did for us at the cross.
Please breathe new life into me once more, moving those things that are holding me back.
In the precious name of Jesus, the light of the world.
