Katy Perry – Roar // Cover

Life can be a battle, but the truth we hold on to is that, in Christ, we find all the strength we need to fight and win.

I recorded this song recently for a women’s event – a cover of Katy Perry’s “Roar” – all about finding power through incredible pain. I’ve had a tough year, with my baby being born premature at 28 weeks, during a global pandemic, seeing her fighting for her life. But this song, although not your typical worship song, has lyrics that are a powerful reminder of the battles that we have faced down and emerged champions.

The bible tells us that the devil prowls around like a lion, looking for someone to devour, but it also says that if we stand firm against him and remain strong in our faith, HE WILL FLEE. He cannot win. He has already lost and will ultimately be defeated when Christ returns.

With the strength of the Holy Spirit we are more powerful than him and there’s nothing that we cannot overcome. When we fight, we are able to dance through whatever fire the enemy throws our way, because through Christ, we are champions. When the devil roars, we roar louder, louder than a lion, because we are victorious.

So devil, hear me ROAR.

“Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. Stand firm against him, and be strong in your faith. Remember that your family of believers all over the world is going through the same kind of suffering you are.” – 1 Peter‬ ‭5:8-9‬ ‭NLT‬‬
