Jesus makes this incredible declaration about himself – that he is THE way, THE truth and THE life. There is no other. There is no getting away from the fact that he is it.
I Am. By using this phrase, Jesus is referencing when God spoke to Moses and called himself ‘I Am’. Jesus uses this phrase various times throughout his life and he is clearly saying that he is equal to God – that he is God. This is ultimately what led to his death as the Pharisees seemed this highly blasphemous. But we know it to be true and reminds us of the authority that Jesus carries when he makes this statement.
The Way. Jesus is the one we must fix our eyes on. He is the author and perfect or of our faith. He is THE WAY that we can find salvation and redemption- our way back to the Father.
The Truth. Jesus is perfect truth. He is our perfect saviour full of truth and grace, love and righteousness, mercy and faith. And it is through putting our faith in this perfect truth that we can find true and everlasting freedom.
The Life. Life and life in abundance can be found in Jesus. Eternal life, he is the one who created us, who breathed life into us and who sustains us.
No one, not one of us, no matter how good we think we are, finds our way to the father except through him. But there is direction, truth, and life to be found in Jesus if we would just put our trust in Him.
