6 weeks old: Fighting to Live

Yesterday was a tough one and it’s not over yet…

Noah was crying all morning trying to tell us that something wasn’t right. Her stats had been dropping quite drastically and suddenly she stopped breathing – the crash team was called as all she turned ash-white. It was the most terrifying moment of her journey yet.

She’s now back in intensive care (ITU), back in an incubator & back on a ventilator – all due to an infection.

They say preemies can change quickly, and they mean quick! She was making great progress but now it feels like we are back to square one. Today started as mommas day, however due to the circumstances they’ve let us both be here & we will be staying over night to be with her for the foreseeable future.

This is a relief as we don’t have to face this alone, but it’s also incredibly scary – the only reason we are both able to be here is because at any moment Noah could take a turn for the worse. Once again we’re facing the very real possibility of not bringing her home.

Blood tests, x-rays, more tests, more x-rays, a blood transfusion, and finally a lumbar puncture late in the evening.

Noah has sepsis, a very serious infection that is causing her all sorts of issues, however the lumbar puncture should be able to find out what is causing it so they can target treatment.

After what feels like two endless days filled with setbacks, we are praying Noah is heading back in the right direction 🙏 The ventilator is still doing all her breathing for her, however it’s not working as hard as it was 12 hours ago (thank Jesus things are looking up).

For those who pray, we’re praying that she beats this infection quickly with the help of the antibiotics, but also that she’s not in too much discomfort with the ventilator into her lungs.

“She dresses herself with strength and makes her arms strong.”
‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭31:17‬ ‭
